tvg-id is a join key
In many playlists, tvg-id connects a channel entry to a channel identifier in XMLTV or another guide feed. It is not globally unique by itself. Two providers may use different identifiers for the same broadcaster, so a directory keeps an explicit, reviewable mapping.
Timezones and schedule freshness
Programme timestamps need an offset or a known source timezone before they can be shown correctly to viewers. Daylight-saving transitions and channels with regional feeds are common sources of one-hour or one-day errors. Expired guide data should disappear without affecting playback.
Guide data also has rights
A public stream does not automatically grant permission to republish its schedule. AdiosTV records EPG permission separately, attributes the approved source and withholds now/next information when that permission or mapping is absent.
